The RangesToExpand and FlexibleRangeExpansion Attributes

The RangesToExpand and FlexibleRangeExpansion Attributes

You can use the
RangesToExpand
attribute to specify whether to expand house or building number ranges into individual address suggestions when individual numbers are available in the reference data. The
FlexibleRangeExpansion
attribute specifies the scope of the range expansion and determines whether the output addresses can include a combination of number ranges and individual numbers.
The attributes apply in fast completion and interactive modes. Find both attributes in the
Result
element in
Parameters.xml
.

RangesToExpand

The options on the
RangesToExpand
attribute are ALL, ONLY_WITH_VALID_ITEMS, and NONE.
If you set
RangesToExpand
to ALL, Address Verification expands the house number ranges whenever any building or house number is available for the street in the suggested address.
If you set
RangesToExpand
to ONLY_WITH_VALID_ITEMS, Address Verification expands the ranges only if the reference data contains the complete list of house numbers within the range for the street.
You can turn off the range expansion by setting the
RangesToExpand
attribute to NONE. The default value is NONE.
When a complete list of house numbers is available in the reference address database, the ONLY_WITH_VALID_ITEMS option behaves in the same way as ALL. When a complete list of house numbers is not available in the reference address database, the ONLY_WITH_VALID_ITEMS setting behaves in the same way as NONE.

FlexibleRangeExpansion

You can configure the
RangesToExpand
attribute in conjunction with the
FlexibleRangeExpansion
attribute to enable address suggestions that include both number ranges and individual numbers. The
FlexibleRangeExpansion
attribute is set to ON by default.
When the
FlexibleRangeExpansion
attribute is ON, Address Verification uses internal logic to determine how many results to expand and how many to keep as ranges so that the results do not exceed the
MaxResultCount
value. For example, Address Verification might expand only the initial items in the suggestion list and return number ranges for the remaining addresses.
Therefore, the numbers of results and the nature of the suggestion list can depend on the value that you specify for
MaxResultCount
in addition to the
RangesToExpand
and
FlexibleRangeExpansion
values.
