DPV ZIP Code Validation

DPV ZIP Code Validation

Output port that verifies that the CASS certification standards of the United States Postal Service recognize a ZIP+4 Code for the address.
Sometimes, the United States Postal Service determines that a valid address is undeliverable. For example, the USPS might learn that no-one receives mail at the address. Although the address information is formally correct, the CASS certification standards do not recognize a ZIP+4 Code for the address. You cannot include the address in an address set that you submit for CASS-certified delivery.
When you submit a CASS-certified address set to the USPS, you complete USPS Form 3553. The form describes the address list and includes the total number of records that you submit. If an address identifies a delivery point but does not contain a valid ZIP+4 Code, you cannot include the address in the total number of addresses.

DPV ZIP Code Validation Usage

To determine whether you can include an address in the total number of records that you enter on Form 3553, select the DPV ZIP Code Validation port. If an address is valid to the CASS standard, the port returns the value Y.
For example, you might use a formula to calculate the total number of records in an address set that you submit to the USPS. You can define the formula to count the number of addresses that return Y on the DPV ZIP Code Validation port. If the port value is not Y, do not include the address in the CASS address list.
