Postal Address Code Identifier AT

Postal Address Code Identifier AT

Input and output ports that identify the preferred street address for a building that has entrances on more than one street.
Austria Post assigns a postal address code identifier to an address record when the building that the address identifies formally receives mail at another address. The postal address code identifier is the same value as the postal address code for the preferred address.

Understanding Postal Address Codes and Postal Address Code identifiers

Each street address in Austria has a single postal address code that represents a street address to the building level. When a building can receive mail at multiple addresses, Austria Post recognizes multiple postal address codes for the building.
For example, a building at an intersection of two streets might have an address on both streets. The building might specify one of the addresses as the delivery address. The other address remains a valid address, but the postal carrier does not use it to deliver mail.
Austria Post applies the following rules and guidelines to postal address codes when a building can receive mail at multiple addresses:
  • The address record for the preferred address can include a postal address code.
The preferred address record does not include a postal address code identifier, because the postal carrier does not need information about an alternative address.
  • The address record for any alternative address can include a postal address code and a postal address code identifier.
The postal address code is a valid unique code for the building on the street that the address specifies. The postal address code identifier is the postal address code of the preferred address.
Austria Post refers to the preferred address as an Ident address.
