Business Glossary Architecture

Business Glossary Architecture

The architecture consists of tools, services, and databases. The tools component consists of client applications. The services component has application services required to manage the tools, and perform tasks in Business Glossary. The databases component consists of the Model repository and Domain Configuration repository.

Tools

Use the Informatica Administrator tool, Informatica Analyst tool, and Business Glossary desktop tool to access and manage Business Glossary.
Business Glossary works with the following tools:
Informatica Administrator
A web-based client application that you can use to administer the Informatica domain and Informatica security. Create user accounts and groups in the Administrator tool.
Informatica Analyst
A web-based client application that you can use to discover, analyze, and report on data and metadata of data sources. Log in to the Analyst tool to access Business Glossary.
Business Glossary desktop
A software application that runs on your desktop from which you can look up glossary content.

Services

Services are a run-time representation of applications that Business Glossary works with.
Business Glossary connects to the following services:
Model Repository Service
An application service that manages the Model repository.
Analyst Service
An application service that runs the Informatica Analyst application in the Informatica domain. Manages the connections between service components and the users that have access to Informatica Analyst.
Search Service
An application service that manages search in the Analyst tool and Business Glossary desktop.
Data Integration Service
An application service that performs data integration tasks for the Analyst tool and the Developer tool.

Databases

Databases store Glossary assets and users.
Business Glossary connects to the following databases:
Model repository database
A relational database that stores Glossary assets.
Domain configuration repository
A relational database that stores users and roles.
