Address Verification Tips and Best Practices

Note the following points when you verify Greece addresses:
  • Address Verification is configured to return valid address information in the Greek script by default. The
    PreferredScript
attribute determines the character set in which Address Verification returns the address data.
The reference databases contain all address data in the Greek script. The reference databases contain street and locality data in Latin and ASCII scripts in addition to the Greek script.
Address Verification can verify and correct street and locality data that you enter in a Latin or an ASCII script and return the valid street and locality data in a LATIN, ASCII, or Greek script. If Address Verification cannot verify or correct street or locality input data in Latin or ASCII, it copies the Latin or ASCII values to the output address. If you submit other address data values in Latin or ASCII, Address Verification copies the input values to the output address.
Address Verification can copy the Latin and ASCII values unchanged for all preferred script options except ASCII. If your input address contains characters that do not have ASCII equivalents, and if you select LATIN _ALT or LATIN _1 as the preferred script, Address Verification copies the ASCII equivalents of the input values to the output address.
  • Address Verification uses the following standards to transliterate street and locality data into a Latin or ASCII script:
    • BGN/PCGN (1947). Transliterates to ASCII.
    • ISO 9 (1995). Transliterates to Latin-1.
    If you set the
    PreferredScript
attribute to LATIN, Address Verification uses the ISO 9 transliteration standard.
    If you set the
    PreferredScript
attribute to LATIN_ALT, Address Verification uses the BGN/PCGN transliteration standard.
The following table shows how Address Verification returns address data for different
    PreferredScript
    settings in Greece:
