Planning Considerations

Plan your DB2 for i5/OS CDC environment before starting change capture.
When determining how to implement a change data capture environment, consider the following questions:
  • Do you need to make changes available at specific intervals in batch mode or on a continual basis?
  • What are the backup and recovery requirements?
  • From which journal receivers do changes need to captured? Where do these journal receivers reside?
  • If you plan to use CDC to maintain a target data warehouse or data mart, what are the business requirements for delivering change data to the target?
  • How will you materialize the target tables or files before starting CDC?
