Alternative Log File Record Length Considerations

Alternative Log File Record Length Considerations

Because the record length is fixed on IBM i, set the TRACING statement RECLEN parameter carefully.
On IBM i, set the TRACING statement RECLEN parameter according to the following criteria:
  • Large enough to avoid spanning messages across multiple records
  • Not too large where wasting disk space is an issue because all records have the same size
For example: RECLEN=150
For the other operating systems, wasting disk space is not a concern, so a record length of 255 is recommended.
