Creating a Data Masking Rule Overview

Creating a Data Masking Rule Overview

In this lesson, you create a standard credit card masking rule, add the rule to the project, and assign the rule to a column to mask the credit card numbers.

Lesson Concepts

Create a data masking rule to replace source data in sensitive columns with realistic test data for nonproduction environments. Data masking rules define how to mask sensitive and confidential data in a target database. When you create data masking rules, you define the logic to replace sensitive data.
Use repeatable masking when you generate a data masking workflow more than once and you need to return the same masked values each time it runs. Apply a seed value to create repeatable output for data masking output. The seed value is a starting point for generating masked values.
To configure the sensitive columns that you want to mask, assign data masking rules to source columns.

Lesson Objectives

In this lesson, you perform the following tasks:
  • Create a credit card masking rule.
  • Add the masking rule to the CustDetails project that you created.
  • Assign the rule to the CREDITCARD column to mask the credit card numbers.

Lesson Prerequisites

Before you start this lesson, complete the earlier lessons in this tutorial.

Lesson Timing

Set aside 15 to 20 minutes to complete the tasks in this lesson.
