Step 4. Define Joins

Step 4. Define Joins

Pull data from multiple source files into a single topic table by creating a join.
You can create multiple joins, and you can combine data from joins into new joins. Joins are virtual entities, and are not created in the topic.
  1. Optionally, create joins for the publication. To create a join, perform the following actions:
    1. Select the files to join from the
      Select Left File
      and
      Select Right File
      lists.
    2. Select the join type from the
      Select Join Type
      list and then enter the join name in the
      Join Name
      field. The name that you assign to the join shows in the
      Field Mapping
      page, where you can map the join to a topic table. The new join appears on the
      Join
      page.
    3. Select the column to join from the left file and then select the column to join from the right file. To add more columns to the join click the plus sign and then select the columns to join.
    4. Click
      Create Join
      .
  2. Repeat step 1 to create as many joins as required.
  3. Click
    Next
    .
    The
    Field Mapping
    page appears.
