Address Type

Output port that describes the type of mailbox that an address record specifies. The Address Validator transformation is optimized to return the address type values for addresses in Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, and the United States. The transformation can also return an address type for addresses in other countries.

Address Type Usage

To return the address type for a New Zealand address, select the Address Type port from the New Zealand Specific port group.

To return the address type for other countries, select the Address Type port from the Status Info port group.

The Address Type port returns a descriptive string for New Zealand addresses and a single-character value for other countries.

The Address Type port and the Record Type port provide similar information. If you submit address records for Address Matching Approval System certification or for Coding Accuracy Support System certification, include the Record Type port data in the address records.

Address Type Output Codes for Global Addresses

When you select the Address Type port from the Status Info port group, the Address Validator transformation returns the address type as a single character. Different countries recognize different subsets of the address type values.

The following table describes the complete set of address type values that the port can return:

Value	Description
B	The address identifies a building.
F	The address identifies an organization. In Canada addresses, the type F addresses are a subset of the type L addresses. Therefore, the address type F also indicates a large volume receiver. In France, a type F address does not include a CEDEX post code.
G	The address is a general delivery address.
H	The address identifies a high-rise building. The address contains sub-building elements such as apartment or suite.
L	The address post code identifies the organization as a large volume receiver. The reference data adds or validates the organization name. The transformation can use a CEDEX postal code to add or validate the organization name in a France address.
M	Military address. Reserved for future use.
P	The address identifies a Post Office Box or a delivery service.
R	The address is a rural route or a highway contract address.
S	The address identifies a street address. S is the default address type. The transformation returns S as the default value if address validation cannot determine the address type from the address data.
U	Unidentified. The address is not valid, and Address Verification does not assign an address type.

If a Canada address meets the criteria for more than one address type, address validation assigns the first applicable address type from the following list:

F, L, P, B, R, S, G

For all other countries, address validation assigns the first applicable address type from the following list:

L, F, P, B, R, S, G

Address Type Output Codes for New Zealand Addresses

The following table describes the address type values that the port can return for New Zealand addresses:

Value	Description
BAG	The address is a private bag address.
BOX	The address is a Post Office Box address.
CMB_RURAL	The address is a community mailbox in the rural address format.
CMB_URBAN	The address is a community mailbox in the urban address format.
COUNTER	The address is a counter delivery address.
RURAL	The address is a rural delivery address.
URBAN	The address is an urban delivery address.
