Rules and Guidelines

Consider the following rules and guidelines when you automate the configuration of a generic database client:
  • Install the database client in the same location on all client machines.
    The path must be the same because you specify the target directory when you deploy the installer. The installer uses the same path on all machines.
  • Do not use the fresh install option on a machine that contains the configuration files. The fresh install option assumes that no files are present and does not replace or update files if they are present.
  • Deploy the installer for one client installation per machine. You cannot use the installer to configure more than one client on a machine.
