A role includes privileges for the Mass Ingestion Service and the Mass Ingestion tool. You assign roles to users or groups for the Mass Ingestion Service. If a user or group is assigned a role for the Mass Ingestion Service, the user or group can perform additional tasks defined by the role in the Mass Ingestion tool.

For example, you can create an Administrator role that includes privileges for the Mass Ingestion Service. You can assign the Administrator role to a user for the Development Mass Ingestion Service. The user can perform tasks defined by the Administrator role in the Mass Ingestion Service and the Mass Ingestion tool. You can revoke the role from the user for the Production Mass Ingestion Service and assign the Administrator role to a different user.

You can assign only the Administrator role to a user or group for the Mass Ingestion Service. You cannot assign custom roles. You cannot assign privileges and permissions.
