PowerExchange CDC Overview

PowerExchange Change Data Capture (CDC) works in conjunction with PowerCenter® to capture changes to data in source tables and replicate those changes to target tables or files.
PowerExchange can capture change data from DB2 for i5/OS journal receivers in near real time. If you use the optional PowerExchange Condense feature, you can capture change data in continuous or batch mode to PowerExchange Condense condense files. PowerExchange then extracts change data from the condense files.
PowerExchange works with PowerCenter to extract the captured change data and apply it to one or more target tables or files. The targets can be on the same system as the source or on a different system.
Use PowerExchange CDC to keep targets synchronized with source tables. By replicating only the changes instead of bulk data, PowerExchange CDC helps make synchronization faster and less costly. This benefit is important to businesses that need to keep data accurate, complete, and up to date for decision-making and critical operations. When multiple changes are made to same field, PowerExchange CDC applies only the latest change.
You can use CDC to:
  • Maintain a subset of the source data on a target, for example, to create a data mart for decision-making.
  • Maintain an exact duplicate of the source.
  • Update a data warehouse.
  • Quickly apply changes to a target after source data is updated to meet specific business or application requirements.
  • Apply changes to a target at specific intervals to meet a business requirement such as data cleansing or translation.
PowerExchange CDC provides a variety of options and parameters to help you create an optimal change data capture implementation for your business requirements and environment.
