Invalid unique constraint - existing rows would violate the proposed constraint
This message appears when an ALTER TABLE statement attempts to add a UNIQUE or PRIMARY KEY constraint to a table that has duplicate values in the proposed key columns.
The UNIQUE and PRIMARY KEY constraints ensure that each value or set of values in the participating columns is unique, and therefore cannot be added to a table whose existing values would immediately violate the constraint.
