Before You Upgrade a Data Vault Component

Before You Upgrade a Data Vault Component

Complete the upgrade prerequisites before you upgrade the Data Vault components.
Before you upgrade a Data Vault component, complete the following tasks:
  1. If you plan to upgrade on a Microsoft Windows machine, verify that you have Administrator privileges.
  2. Upgrade the following Visual C++ package according to your Windows installation:
    64-bit
On 64-bit Microsoft Windows installations, upgrade to the following Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2019:
    • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2019 (64-bit).
    • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2019(32-bit).
    32-bit
On 32-bit Microsoft Windows installations, upgrade to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2019 (32-bit).
Verify that you have the correct package and service pack. Data Vault does not work with other versions of Visual C++.
  3. If the version of RHEL 8 server libraries is incompatible with the OpenSSL version that Data Vault uses, you might encounter a symbol lookup error. On RHEL 8 machines, build Curl 1.1.1k libraries and export the path to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. Restart the Data Archive and Data Vault servers to update the change.
  4. On Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise servers, if not already installed, install glibc-locale-base-32bit to allow 32-bit components of Data Vault to work.
  5. Verify the amount of free disk space. The free disk space must be 10 times the size of the
    meta.n00
file. Otherwise, the upgrade will fail.
  6. Complete all Data Vault Loader jobs to ensure that all data are loaded to the Data Vault before you start the upgrade process.
  7. Stop the ILM application server and end all ILM services.
  8. Stop the Data Vault components. If you run Data Vault as a Microsoft Windows service, stop the service.
  9. Verify that the user account you use to run the installer has read and write privileges to the directory of the Data Vault component that you plan to upgrade. The installer makes a backup copy of the directory before it starts the upgrade process. If you do not have read and write privileges to the directory, the upgrade can fail.
  10. Copy the Data Vault installer files to the machine that hosts the Data Vault component that you plan to upgrade.
  11. Check the metadata consistency.
