Configuring a rule specification in basic mode

In basic mode, you configure inputs, rule sets, and rule specifications to represent the data that the business rule will read and the steps that the business rule must perform. Basic mode is the default mode in the asset.
Before you create a rule specification, read the Prerequisites to rule specification configuration.
  1. Click
    New
    Rule Specification

    Data Quality
    opens the
    Rule Specification
    page.
  2. On the Definition tab, enter a name for the rule specification.
  3. Optionally, enter a description.
Enter a summary of the underlying business rule as the description.
  4. Select the location in which to save the rule specification.
  5. Optionally, select a data quality dimension to represent the type of data quality issue that you want the asset to examine.
For more information about dimensions, see Rule specifications and dimensions.
  6. Save the rule specification.
    The

    panel appears. The
    Asset References

    panel.
  9. Expand the
    Design
panel, and configure a rule statement in the primary rule set.
The primary rule set defines the data output from the rule specification.
The primary rule set contains a preconfigured rule statement and reads a preconfigured input by default. Based on your business rule requirements, you can modify the default components.
  10. Optionally, update the primary rule set name.
    • Select the primary rule set, and select
      General

    Use the
    Input Management
dialog box to create the inputs.
You can modify the properties on the default input.
  13. Add any rule statement that the rule specification requires.
You can add a rule statement to the primary rule set or to another rule set. For more information on rule statements, see Rule statement configuration.
  14. Save the rule specification.
After you configure the rule specification, test the rule specification with sample data.
