PowerExchange Condense Processing

PowerExchange Condense Processing

PowerExchange Condense captures change data to condense files.
The condense files store only the successfully completed UOWs, in chronological order by end time. After PowerExchange Condense completes writing changes to a condense file and closes the file, extraction of change data can begin. The CDC session extracts data from the condense files rather than directly from the journal receivers.
You can run PowerExchange Condense in one of the following operational modes:
  • Batch mode. A single Condense cycle runs and then shuts down.
  • Continuous mode. A Condense job runs for a long period, perhaps on a 24-hour basis. In this mode, the condense subtask “sleeps” after each condense operation.
If you run PowerExchange Condense in continuous mode, a condense process is triggered when any of the following events occur:
  • Initialization completes.
  • A CONDENSE command or pwxcmd condense command is issued.
  • A FILESWITCH command or a pwxcmd fileswitch command is issued.
  • The wait period that is specified in the NO_WAIT_DATA parameter of the CAPTPARM member elapses.
Also, you can specify the type of condense processing that PowerExchange Condense uses by setting the
Condense
option in the capture registrations to one of the following values:
  • Full
. PowerExchange Condense creates condense files that contain only the latest changes.
  • Part
. PowerExchange Condense creates condense files that contain all successful changes for a source.
For extraction processing, you can use either batch extraction mode or continuous extraction mode.
PowerExchange Condense provides the following benefits:
  • Does not record changes that were caused by backing out or rolling back transactions.
  • If you select
    Full
    for the
    Condense
option, records only the latest change for each record when multiple changes are made.
