Viewing a Data File

Viewing a Data File

If a data map has an associated data file, you can view the data file in the
Data File
window.
Define the default display format and the number of records to initially display in the
Data Map Preferences
dialog box. When you view the data file, you can display additional records, until all of the records in the data file have been displayed. You can also display a ruler above a record to show the number of characters in the record.
  1. Open the data map.
  2. On the
    Resources
    tab in the
    Resource Explorer
    , click
    File > View Data File
    .
If the data map does not have an associated data file, this command is not available.
The first time you open a data file for a data map in a session, the
    Data File Remote Node
    dialog box appears. Thereafter, the
    Data File
    window appears.
  3. If the
    Data File Remote Node
dialog box appears, enter connection information for the system on which the data file is located, and click
    OK
    .
The following table describes the connection information to enter:
    Option
    Description
    User ID
If a user ID is required to access the system where the file is located, enter a user ID.
For files on supported Linux, UNIX, or Windows systems, if you have enabled PowerExchange LDAP user authentication, the user name is the enterprise user name. For more information, see the
    PowerExchange Reference Manual
    .
    Password
If you specify a user ID, enter a password for that user ID.
For access to a file on i5/OS or z/OS, you can enter a valid PowerExchange passphrase instead of a password. An i5/OS passphrase can be from 9 to 31 characters in length. A z/OS passphrase can be from 9 to 128 characters in length. A passphrase can contain the following characters:
    • Uppercase and lowercase letters
    • The numbers 0 to 9
    • Spaces
    • The following special characters:
      ’ - ; # \ , . / ! % & * ( ) _ + { } : @ | < > ?
The first character is an apostrophe.
Passphrases cannot include single quotation marks (‘), double quotation marks (“), or currency symbols.
On z/OS, the allowable characters in the IBM IRRPHREX exit do not affect the allowable characters in PowerExchange passphrases.
On z/OS, a valid RACF passphrase can be up to 100 characters in length. PowerExchange truncates passphrases longer than 100 characters when passing them to RACF for validation.
To use passphrases, ensure that the PowerExchange Listener runs with a security setting of SECURITY=(1,N) or higher in the DBMOVER member. For more information, see "SECURITY Statement" in the
    PowerExchange Reference Manual
    .
    Location
Select the node name of the system where the data file is located.
This field lists the locations that are defined in the NODE statements in the dbmover.cfg configuration file on the PowerExchange Navigator system.
    Default is
    local
    .
    File Password
If a password is required to access the data file, enter a password.
Save User ID and Password(s) for session
Select this option to save the information you enter for the duration of the session.
    Default is selected.
The following table describes the columns that the
    Data File
window displays for each record in the data file:
    Column
    Description
    Rec No
    The record number.
    Offset
The data offset of the hexadecimal data.
Used for the vertical display format.
    Data
The record data, which is displayed in one of the following display formats:
    • Char/Hex
. Displays records in character and hexadecimal format.
    • Char
. Displays records in character format.
    • Vertical
. Displays records vertically in character and hexadecimal format.
    Default is Vertical.
By default, ten records are displayed.
  4. To display additional records in the data file, enter the number of records to display in the box next to the
    Get Records
    toolbar button. Then click the
    Get Records
toolbar button. After all of the records have been retrieved, a message box indicates that the end of the file is reached.
  5. To change the display format or to show or hide the scale for a record, perform these actions:
    • To change the display format, click
      Mode
      and click a display format.
    • To show or hide the scale for a record, right-click a record and click
      Show Scale
      or
      Hide Scale
      .
