Generating an Encrypted Password

Generating an Encrypted Password

You can specify an encrypted password in some PowerExchange configuration files, pwxcmd commands, and utility statements. For access to z/OS, you can encrypt a valid PowerExchange passphrase.
  1. Click
    File
    Encrypt Password
    .
    The
    Generate Encrypted Password
    dialog box appears.
  2. In the
    Password
box, type a clear text password. Alternatively, for access to i5/OS or z/OS, enter a valid PowerExchange passphrase.
A passphrase for i5/OS access can be from 9 to 31 characters in length. A passphrase for z/OS access can be from 9 to 128 characters in length (non-ODBC) or from 9 to 79 characters in length (ODBC). A passphrase can contain the following characters:
    • Uppercase and lowercase letters
    • The numbers 0 to 9
    • Spaces
    • The following special characters:
      ’ - ; # \ , . / ! % & * ( ) _ + { } : @ | < > ?
The first character is an apostrophe.
Passphrases cannot include single quotation marks (‘), double quotation marks (“), or currency symbols.
  3. Click
    Generate Encrypted Password
    .
The encrypted password or passphrase appears in the
    Encrypted Password
    box.
  4. Copy and paste the encrypted password or passphrase into the appropriate parameter in a configuration file, utility statement, or command option.
For example, the following encrypted password is specified in the CAPTURE_NODE_EPWD parameter in the pwxccl.cfg configuration file:
    CAPTURE_NODE_EPWD=F40B3B2742FB3A1F
