Manual edits should be done only in exceptional cases. It is always better to have the data corrected in the source system, as that starts a process of continuous data improvement.
Before you do a manual edit, consider the consistency with which that change must be applied to data. If you are making a change that must be consistently applied to many records, then it is usually better to define a data cleansing function to apply the change consistently and to reduce the amount of manual work.
For example, if you change the abbreviation “Co” to “Company” in a record, chances are that there will be other records that should have the same change applied to them.
