Data Asset

Data Asset

A data asset represents the source that contains metadata.
Business terms can contain links to the following types of data assets:
  • Data domains. A predefined or user-defined Model repository object that represents the functional meaning of a column based on the column data or column name. Examples are Social Security number, credit card number, and email ID.
  • Data objects. Sources used to extract metadata for analysis.
For example, sensitive data such as Social Security numbers are stored in a data domain. The data asset for the business term "sensitive data" contains a link to the data domain location. An auditor who reads the business term can see the location where sensitive data is stored.
