Adding Search Fields to an IMS Record

Adding Search Fields to an IMS Record

Add one or more search fields to an IMS DL/1 batch or IMS ODBA data map record.
  1. Open the data map.
    If message PWX-01574 is displayed, the DBD that you imported for the data map supplied the key type value of "S" for a record search field. The "S" key type, for sequence fields, is deprecated. Edit record properties to change the
    Key
    value for the search field to
    U
    .
  2. On the
    Data Map
    tab in the
    Resource Explorer
    , right-click the record and click
    Properties
    .
    The
    Record Properties
    dialog box appears.
  3. On the
    Search Fields
    tab, click the
    Add New
    toolbar button.
  4. In the
    New Search Field
    dialog box, define the search field.
    The following table describes the information to enter:
    Option
    Description
    Name
    Enter a name for the search field. The name must be a field name in the IMS DBD, usually the name of a SEQUENCE field. It can be any field name defined within a SEGM.
    Maximum length is eight characters.
    Valid characters are ASCII characters and the pound and yen sign.
    Position
    Enter the position of the search field.
    Valid values are from 1 through 32767. Default is 1.
    Length
    Enter the length of the search field.
    Valid values are from 1 through 32767. Default is 1.
    Key
    Select one of the following key types:
    • Blank.
    • U
      . Unique key type.
    • M
      . Many, the non-unique key type.
    Default is U.
  5. Click
    OK
    .
    The search field appears in the
    Search Fields
    list on the
    Search Fields
    tab.
