Performing data catalog discovery

Performing data catalog discovery

Perform data catalog discovery on the
Data Catalog
page.
The following image shows the
Data Catalog
page:
When the organization administrator has configured Enterprise Data Catalog integration properties, the Data Catalog page contains a search field that you can use to search for Enterprise Data Catalog objects.
The page displays a
Search
field and the total number of table, view, and flat file assets in the catalog.
In the
Search
field, enter a phrase that might occur in the object name, description, or other metadata such as the data domain or associated business glossary term. When you select an object from the search results,
Data Integration
asks you where you want to use the object.
Data Integration
also imports the connection if it does not exist in your organization.
You can use the object in the following places:
  • In a new mapping. If you select this option,
    Data Integration
creates a new mapping and adds the object to the mapping inventory. You can then add the object to the mapping as a source, target, or lookup object.
  • In an open mapping. If you select this option,
    Data Integration
asks you to select the mapping and adds the object to the mapping inventory. You can then add the object to the mapping as a source, target, or lookup object.
  • In a new
    synchronization
task. If you select this option,
    Data Integration
    creates a new
    synchronization
task and adds the object as the source object.
  • In a new
    file ingestion
task. If you select this option,
    Data Integration
    creates a new
    file ingestion
task and adds the object as the source object.
