Adding an IMS Data Map

Adding an IMS Data Map

To add an IMS data map, you must specify a schema name, data map name, and access method. To define the data layout, you can import an IMS DBD when creating the data map or afterwards.
  1. On the
    Resources
    tab in the
    Resource Explorer
    , click
    Add > Data Map
    .
  2. In the
    Name
dialog box, enter the following information:
    Field
    Description
    Schema Name
    The name of the schema.
    Data Map Name
A user-defined name for the data map.
    Access Method
One of the following options for accessing the source data:
    • DL/1 BATCH
. Accesses an IMS database through submitted JCL. Although the access method is DL/1 batch, you can choose either DL/1 or BMP for the netport job.
    • IMS ODBA
. Connects to an IMS database through an open source database connection.
    • SEQ
. Accesses an IMS database that you plan to use as a flat file.
You can override the DL/1 BATCH or IMS ODBA access method later when you perform a database row test or run a PowerCenter bulk data movement session.
    Import Record Definitions
Select this box to import a DBD into the data map. The DBD import adds segments and corresponding table views to the data map, along with key field, search field, CCK field definitions. It also defines the hierarchical sequence of segments.
After you import a DBD, you can import a COBOL or PL/I copybook into each segment in the data map to overlay the segment with its COPYLIB.
  3. Click
    Next
    .
  4. In the
    Access Method
dialog box, enter information for the access method that you selected. Then click
    Finish
    .
  5. If you selected
    Import Record Definitions
, import the IMS DBD and segment copybooks.
After you complete the data map, perform database row tests on the tables in the data map to verify that the data map can be used to access data.
