Adding a VSAM Data Map

Adding a VSAM Data Map

When you add a data map, you can optionally import a copybook to describe the structure of the VSAM data set. The following steps assume that you use a copybook.
  1. Click the
    Resources
    tab in the
    Resource Explorer
    .
  2. On the menu bar, click
    Add > Data Map
    .
  3. On the
    Name
    page, enter the following information:
    • In the
      Access Method
      list, select
      ESDS
      ,
      KSDS
      , or
      RRDS
      .
    • Select the
      Import Record Definitions
      option.
    Select the
    RRDS
access method for both fixed-length and variable length RRDS (VRRDS) data sets.
  4. Click
    Next
    .
  5. On the
    Access Method
page, enter information for the access method and click
    Finish
    .
By default, PowerExchange uses the system-defined buffering for VSAM processing. To tune PowerExchange processing, specify additional VSAM buffers.
  6. On the
    Import Copybook - Source Details
page, select the source type. Then select one of the following copybook types:
    • COBOL
    • PL/1
    Default is
    COBOL
    .
  7. Click
    Next
    .
  8. On the
    Import Copybook - Remote Details
page for the copybook type, enter information for the copybook and click
    Next
    .
  9. On the
    Import Copybook - Configuration Details
page, select the actions for imported records, fields, and tables and click
    Next
    .
For more information, see Importing a Copybook into a Data Map.
  10. On the
    Import Copybook Information
page, review the information for the import operation and click
    OK
    .
  11. On the
    Record Definition
page, select an action for each imported record and click
    OK
    .
For more information, see Importing a Copybook into a Data Map.
    The
    Import
    window displays the imported copybook.
    The
    Copybook Message Log
window displays the results of the import operation.
If an error message appears in the
    Copybook Message Log
window, double-click the message to find the associated line in the copybook.
  12. If you imported multiple records, you can perform the following actions for each record to define a record ID value:
    1. On the
      Data Map
      tab in the
      Resource Explorer
      , click the record.
    2. In the
      Record
window, right-click the field that identifies the record, and click
      Properties
      .
      The
      Name
      tab in the
      Field Properties
      dialog box appears.
    3. In the
      Record ID Values
box, enter a value and operator that defines the record.
  13. To identify the relationships between record types, enter optional record properties. Perform the following actions for each record:
    1. Right-click the record.
    2. Select
      Properties
      .
    3. Select the
      Parent Record Name
      ,
      Redefines Record Name
      , or
      Header/Trailer Record
option, and select the record name or type of record.
With this metadata, you can import a multiple-record data map into PowerCenter to perform multiple-record writes.
For more information about multiple-record writes, see the
    PowerExchange Bulk Data Movement Guide
    and
    PowerExchange Interfaces for PowerCenter
