Defining Rules for Replacing Characters in Data

Defining Rules for Replacing Characters in Data

You can define a rule to replace a character in the source data with another character. If the source data includes characters that the target load utility does not support, define a replacement rule for each unsupported character.
  1. On the
    Runtime Settings
    tab >
    Format Settings
    view, click
    Replace any char with
    .
    Alternatively, click
    Data
    Manage replacements on fly
    on the menu bar.
    The
    Replace characters
    dialog box appears:
  2. Click
    Add
    to add a replacement rule.
    The
    New Character Replacement
    dialog box appears:
  3. In the
    Replace from
field, enter the character that you want to replace. In the
    Replace with
field, enter the new character. Then click
    Save
    .
To remove all occurrences of the
    Replace from
character from the incoming source data, leave the
    Replace with
    field empty.
In character replacement rules, you can use hexadecimal notation. You must use hexadecimal notation to replace a backslash (\) character. Also, you can use the following non-printable ASCII characters:
    • \a (alert)
    • \b (backspace)
    • \n (new line)
    • \r (carriage return)
    • \t (horizontal tab)
    • \v (vertical tab)
You cannot use multibyte characters in character replacement rules.
  4. In the
    Replace characters
    dialog box, click
    Ok
to save all of the replacement rules.
To edit a replacement rule, click
    Edit
next to the rule. To delete a replacement rule, click
    Delete
    next to the rule.
