XConnect Creation

XConnect Creation

An XConnect is the code and artifacts that Metadata Manager uses to extract metadata from a metadata source. It includes the model for the metadata source. To create a universal XConnect, you create a plug-in, copy the plug-in to the Metadata Manager Service plug-ins directory, and recycle the Metadata Manager Service.
Metadata Manager imports the model when the service is enabled.
The following image shows the process to create a universal XConnect:
To create a universal XConnect, get the metadata source name, create the plug-in definition file, generate the plug-in, and then copy the plug-in and recycle the Metadata Manager Service. If you want to use custom icons, get the image mapping information and get the icons before you generate the plug-in.
  1. Get the metadata source name.
  2. Create the plug-in definition file.
  3. If you want to use custom icons, run the mmXConPluginUtil generateImageMapping command to get the image mapping information for the groups and classes in the model.
  4. If you want to use custom icons, get the icons for the model, groups, and classes.
  5. Run the mmXConPluginUtil generatePlugin command to generate the plug-in.
  6. Copy the plug-in to the Metadata Manager Service plug-ins directory, and then recycle the Metadata Manager Service.
