Automatic Connection Assignments

Automatic Connection Assignments

When you create or edit a resource, you can direct Metadata Manager to automatically configure connection assignments to relational database or Informatica Platform resource types. You might want to automatically configure connection assignments if a data integration, business intelligence, or data modeling resource contains many connections.
If you select
Auto Assign Connections
when you configure the connection assignment properties of a data modeling resource, Metadata Manager assigns one relational schema to each connection. You can edit a data modeling resource to manually assign multiple relational schemas to one connection.
When Metadata Manager automatically configures connection assignments, Metadata Manager does not override any manually assigned connections.
After you direct Metadata Manager to automatically configure connection assignments, complete one of the following tasks:
Load the resources.
The load process automatically establishes the connection assignments and then creates the links between objects in the connected resources. You must load the relational database resource types for the connection first.
Use the Resource Link Administration window to create the links.
If you have loaded the resources, direct Metadata Manager to create the links between objects in connected resources. The link process automatically configures the connection assignments and then creates the links.
Metadata Manager automatically configures connection assignments based on the best possible match. Metadata Manager obtains the list of connections for which it can assign automatic connections. It then groups the connections based on connection subtype and the associated repository to ensure that resources are filtered based on the connection objects. For example, if a connection type is Oracle, Metadata Manager considers only Oracle resources and schemas for automatic connection assignment. After grouping the connections, Metadata Manager calculates the link count completeness score of the filtered connection objects for each connection assignment. It uses the connection object with the maximum link count for the automatic connection assignment.
Use the
Links
view in the
Load Details
tab to review the automatic connection assignments. Update any incorrect connection assignments and then create the links again.
