Resource Migration Steps

Resource Migration Steps

To migrate a packaged or universal resource between Metadata Manager instances of the same version, you must migrate the resource configuration and custom attributes to the target environment. If you migrate a universal resource, you must also copy the plug-in to the target environment. To migrate objects, you export them from the source repository and import them into the target repository.
The following image shows the process to migrate a packaged or universal resource:
The process for migrating a packaged or universal resource varies based on the resource type and whether you use custom attributes, rule sets, or business names.
  1. If you migrate a universal resource, copy the plug-in to the Metadata Manager Service plug-ins directory in the target environment, and then recycle the Metadata Manager Service.
Metadata Manager imports the universal XConnect and model in the target environment when the Metadata Manager Service is enabled.
  2. If you added custom class attributes to the model in the source environment or if the model has associated rule set definitions, migrate the model:
    1. Export the model from the source repository. On the
      Model
      tab, click
      Actions
      Export Selected Model
. Include the rule set definitions in the export file.
    2. Import the model into the target repository. On the
      Model
      tab, click
      Actions
      Import Selected Model
      .
  3. Migrate the resource configuration:
    1. Export the resource configuration from the source repository. On the
      Load
      tab, click
      Actions
      Export Resource Configuration
. If the resource has associated rule sets or parameter files, include them in the export file.
    2. Import the resource configuration into the target repository. On the
      Load
      tab, click
      Actions
      Import Resource Configuration
      .
  4. Load the resource in the target environment.
  5. If you updated the values of custom attributes or the business names for objects in the source environment, migrate the resource metadata:
    1. Export the resource metadata from the source repository to a Microsoft Excel file. On the
      Browse
      tab, click
      Actions
      Export Metadata
      Excel
      .
    2. Import the resource metadata into the target repository. On the
      Browse
      tab, click
      Actions
      Import Metadata
      Excel
      .
