Mask rule parameter

Mask rule parameter

A parameter is a placeholder for a value or values in a mapping. You can use a mask rule parameter when you configure a Data Masking transformation object in a mapping.
Use a mask rule parameter when you do not have the source connection information. You can also use a mask rule parameter when you want to assign masking techniques to source fields when you run the
mapping
task. For example, if the source transformation object in a mapping uses a parameter, you cannot assign masking techniques when you create the mapping. After you create a mapping with a source connection, you might add additional fields to the source that you want to mask. Use a mask rule parameter when you create the mapping. You can then create multiple tasks to mask different data based on the same mapping.
For more information about parameters, see
Mappings
.

Rules and guidelines for mask rule parameters

Read the following rules and guidelines before you use a mask rule parameter:
  • You can add a single mask rule parameter to a data masking transformation.
  • You can use a mask rule parameter only in the mapping that you create it in.
  • If you add a mask rule parameter to a mapping, you select columns and apply masking techniques at runtime.
  • If a mapping includes a source parameter, you must use a mask rule parameter. You can't apply masking techniques when you create the mapping because you don't know the source columns.
  • At runtime, the
    Input Parameters
tab appears only if you use a mask rule parameter in the mapping.

Hi there Informatica Experts.

I was unable to find a single reference about how to use mask rule parameters, even it is confuse on IDMC when you use it on a Dynamic Mapping Task because it ask for a simple text field I can fill with anything. Could you please add some kind of guidance or examples here?

Hi Edius Maicol Vargas Paniagua,

We’re working to address your comments and will get back to you.

Ok, I was trying to figure it out, I had been documented what I thing is not ok on this discussion, if it could be of any help: https://network.informatica.com/s/question/0D5VM00000CZU660AH/usage-of-mask-rule-parameter-on-a-dynamic-mapping-task
